SAT registration can be a scramble. Get ahead of the 2025-26 rush with this straightforward plan. Last year registration opened today, May 7th so get ready! Prime test spots go fast, so it pays to prepare.
Before Registration Opens:
Create your College Board account NOW if you don't have one yet (especially if you haven't taken PSAT/AP). Waiting will slow you down when registration opens and means risking your preferred test center.
Testing Timeline: Get a rough idea of when you want to test. Most students test three to four times to optimize scores. Test dates for the 2025-25 school year are as follows:
August 23, 2025
September 13, 2025
October 4, 2025
November 8, 2025
December 6, 2025
March 14, 2026
May 2, 2026
June 6, 2026
Get Your Headshot Ready: Have a passport-style .jpg, .gif or .png photo saved on your device.
Sophomores in Busy Areas (Bay Area, LA, NYC): Consider registering for the SAT even if you are still deciding between the ACT and SAT to secure a local spot.
When Registration Opens:
Login to College Board and register Immediately: Early registration = best chance for your preferred location. Be persistent if the site lags.
First-Time Testers: Sign Up for 3+ Tests to secure convenient locations for future dates. You can cancel later for a partial refund.
Skip Optional Questions: Fly through the questions and only answer the mandatory ones to get to your test center selection faster.
Missed Your Ideal Spot? Don't Give Up:
Check for SpotsAfter Score Releases: Spots may open after May 16th and June 20th as students cancel future test dates.
Look for Added Test Centers: Especially in busy areas, College Board sometimes adds hotel locations 6-8 weeks before test dates. Keep checking!
Prep now for a smoother SAT registration. A little early action goes a long way!
Helping you Soar Sooner,
Carrie
